Centuries old, these tubular shaped pieces of Ancient Roman glass are exquisite to look at! I used a simple sterling silver wire wrap to make them into earrings, so the glass is front and center, as it should be.
These pieces are quite large and chunky, but have a comfortable weight so they can be worn for hours on end without irritating your earlobes. Both beads have a lot of calcification from being buried for centuries beneath the Afghanistan sand, and both have some iridescence. They are at least 900 years old, and perhaps much older. Translucent to opaque green glass, enhanced by the creamy calcification, will lend itself to many color schemes in your wardrobe.
The tiny beads at the bottom are spacers that come between the glass beads on some of the strands that I get in. I don't actually know what they are, but they have a rustic, earthiness about them that makes them perfect with the glass. Some of my suppliers say the small beads are also ancient glass, and others say it's stone.
* Earrings hang approximately 1.5" (3.8cm) from the top of handmade Sterling earwires.
* Ancient Glass = 17.8mm x 12mm (.7" x .47" - sizes vary slightly)
All metal is Sterling Silver, and all work is my own, done with my own hands.
