One of my favorite components to design with is Ancient Roman Glass. I've featured two beautifully unique pieces in this pair of earrings. The translucence is breathtaking, and the calcification adds a level of earthiness that's hard to find anywhere else.
The two pieces of glass are similar in length and color, but other than that, they're completely unique in shape. After hundreds of years of being buried in the Afghanistan sand, there are various degrees of calcification. The glass is aqua, on the greenish side, and the calcification varies in shades of white, cream, and tan. One of the pieces has a crevice in it that makes it even more interesting to me, although I think it was done accidentally when the cutter was drilling it, making it one of those "happy mistakes".
I used highest quality Sterling Silver wire and beads to make these simple dangle earrings, including the wire wrapped ear wires that permanently connect the glass drop to the finding.
* Earrings hang 1.5" from top of my handmade ear wires (Sterling Silver)
* Glass = approx. 12mm x 15mm (.47"x.6") and 9.5mm x 14mm (.37"x.55") measured at widest and tallest points.
All wire and other metal components are Sterling Silver, and All design and work are my own.
Please note that these earrings are one of a kind, and while I can make a similar pair, no two pieces of glass are alike.
